Ubisoft Looking To Support Its Games For 5/10 Years, Won't Sell DLC That Complete The Experience Anymore

Ubisoft is not exactly known for being a publisher giving abroad extra content for costless, but it seems like the publisher is rethinking its older approach and then to keep players engaged in their latest titles for longer, as revealed in a recent interview.

Speaking with Games Industry, Ubisoft'south VP of live operations Anne Blonder-Jouin confirmed that the publisher is looking to back up its games between v and ten years and to offer careful monetization to go on players engaged every bit long as possible.

"Monetisation is something we have to be very careful almost, and my squad is in accuse of that and making sure we notice a correct balance."

Interestingly enough, Anne Blonder-Jouin also talked almost content that might experience compulsory for gamers, confirming that Ubisoft will not longer sell DLC that will complete the feel.

"If I take an analogy of an amusement park, yous can get through all the rides, but then you tin also get to the shop to purchase some food or merchandise or whatever... regardless of whether y'all spend in the shop, yous're still part of the whole experience. Nobody is making you buy if y'all don't desire to, but it is some other way to have a different entertainment experience. If yous're with your kids, and there'south a toy you want to get, we will brand sure it is an extra experience. It won't be the case if you don't buy information technology then y'all can't do anything else."

"Information technology wouldn't work if it was nearly making it compulsory for gamers. No more DLC that you have to buy if you want to have the full feel. You have the game, and if you desire to expand it - depending on how you lot want to experience the game - yous're free to buy information technology, or non."

Ubisoft'due south new model is definitely working for Rainbow Six Siege, and so it will be interesting to see how it will be applied in the time to come in games with a strong multiplayer component, such every bit the shortly to be released Steep.
